Signage and orientation are vital aspects of any city. They ensure the ebb and flow of people, and create a coherent and structured urban environment. They are particularly important during big events. A city has to deal with a large influx of visitors, and channel them through venues, queues, routes and categories.

Principal among such events are football world cups. Maps and signage not only orientate fans through the tournament, but create a standard for the future, so that even though the fans may have left, South Africans may be sufficiently guided in the use of their city.

Maps designed by MojaNation for use during the FIFA 2010 World Cup were therefore bold, context-specific, simple, and effective in their message. Roads and public transport networks were prominently on display around stadium, entertainment and accommodation zones. Directional arrows and large lettering ensured effective, safe and rapid human flow to, from and within stadiums.
